About 296 (Stoke Newington) Squadron
296 (Stoke Newington) Squadron is part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, giving young people the chance to learn new skills, make friends and experience aviation and adventure in a supportive environment.
Who We Are
We are a community-based squadron within London Wing RAFAC, parading at Albion Road in Stoke Newington. Our cadets come from across the local area and represent a wide range of schools, backgrounds and ambitions.
Our aim is simple: to help young people develop confidence, leadership, resilience and a sense of service – while having fun and spending time with friends.
What We Do on Parade Nights
- Classroom training towards RAFAC classifications and badges
- Drill and ceremonial practice
- Practical leadership and team-building tasks
- STEM and aviation-themed activities
- Preparation for flying, camps and fieldcraft
Parade nights currently run on Monday and Thursday, 19:00–21:00.
Joining as a Cadet
We are recruiting now for future intakes. If you’re interested in joining, the best first step is to come and see us on a parade night with a parent or guardian.
Eligibility (guide)
- Age: usually from school Year 8 up to 16½ on joining
- Open to young people of all backgrounds
- Ideally living within reasonable travel distance
- Willing to attend regularly and get involved

Adult Volunteers
The squadron is run by a team of adult volunteers – commissioned officers, SNCOs and civilian instructors – supported by a civilian committee.
