The Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC)
296 (Stoke Newington) Squadron is one unit within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets – a UK-wide uniformed youth organisation sponsored by the RAF.
What Is RAFAC?
RAFAC exists to give young people a taste of aviation, adventure and service. Cadets wear RAF-style uniform, follow a structured training syllabus and take part in activities that stretch them physically and mentally, while remaining safe and enjoyable.
Core Aims
- Promote interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force
- Develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship
- Encourage a spirit of adventure and community service
- Provide skills useful in both military and civilian life
Activities You Can Do
- Air experience flying and (where available) gliding
- Adventure training, fieldcraft and expeditions
- Target shooting (subject to training and approvals)
- Radio, cyber and STEM activities
- Sports, music and drill & ceremonial events
- Visits to RAF stations and other establishments
Training and Badges
Cadets follow a progressive training syllabus, starting with First Class and then moving on to leading, senior and master air cadet levels. Along the way they can gain:
- Classification badges
- Radio and cyber badges
- Music and sports awards
- Leadership qualifications and BTEC opportunities
